Track #3
EMILY
Emily is a song I wrote with a couple of co-writers in Nashville.
We were going over the idea of this song, you know, the kind of idea I think that everybody’s had at one point or another in their life about liking or loving somebody but you can’t necessarily tell them how you feel.
The way that the title Emily came up… The songwriters and I had to come up with a woman’s name for the hook. It couldn’t be just any name, it had to be a woman’s name that ended with an E vowel.
One of the guys shouted, “It can be anything just not Valerie!”
He wouldn’t tell us who Valerie was but it was hilarious. So now we like to call this song the Not Valerie song.
The song “Emily” describes an infatuation that we have all had at one time or another: “There you are, close enough to touch, but still so far away.”
This is the only song on the EP that features co-writers, and it came together magnificently.
Take the chance that I could show you how our lives could be… by pressing play!
Emily
Lyrics to Emily
Writer(s): Chip Hardy, Rod Lewis, Benjamin Olson and Mike Rhodes
Verse 1
There you are
Close enough to touch
But still so far away
A glass of wine
Full moon dancin’ in your soft blue eyes
The music plays
And the desert wind is whisperin’ your name
And I know I’m never gonna be the same
Chorus
If I reach across to touch your hand
Would you pull away or understand the we could be more than friends
Would you run away or let me hold you take the chance that I could show you how our lives could be
Emily, Emily
Verse 2
I don’t know why I never found the words before tonight to say
That hopefully before the night is through you’ll be with me to stay
And that ole’ wind’s still whisperin’ your name
And I know I’m never gonna be the same
Chorus
If I reach across to touch your hand
Would you pull away or understand the we could be more than friends
Would you run away or let me hold you take the chance that I could show you how our lives could be
Emily, Emily
